A seniors’ centre in York is getting financial help to make it more accessible.

The Syme 55-plus Centre is receiving a $45,000 grant through the provincial government’s Ontario150 Community Capital Program to refresh areas of the centre and to make accessibility upgrades.

The Syme 55-plus Centre is a multi-purpose community based agency at 33 Pritchard Ave. that specializes in a diverse range of health and wellness support services and programs for adults 55 years and older.

“The Syme 55-plus Seniors Centre is thrilled to receive this funding opportunity from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to join in on celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada and the Province of Ontario,” Syme executive director Christi Olins said in a news release.

“We are using the funding to make accessibility upgrades, replace exterior doors and refresh areas of the seniors’ centre. These projects have been well over due and we are looking forward to continuing to fostering a warm and safe environment for both our members and the community.”

The funding, which is administered through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, was announced by York South-Weston MPP Laura Albanese on Feb. 10.
