I may have mentioned in a previous post that I started having chest pains back in the fall. Well, after numerous tests, they’ve discovered (the white coats at the cardiac clinic at the hospital) that I have 5 blockages ranging from 70% to 95% affecting 4 arteries in my heart.
Both of my parents had to have bypass surgery at a relatively young age. I guess it was inevitable that I would walk the same path. I’d hoped to avert this outcome but obviously that wasn’t in the cards.
I actually found out about the blockages back on Dec 27 and have been doing loads of research since then.
So, this is what’s going on… Saw my cardiac surgeon on Jan 31. He says I need a quadruple bypass (not triple as I’d thought), which is now booked for Feb 22. He’s doing a beating heart surgery, impressive procedure. Imagine, minimally invasive heart surgery! If you’re interested, you can watch that procedure on YouTube like I’ve done. AND I won’t have to have the full leg length incision to grab the donor artery! Yeah!
If you’ve been reading my newsletters for the last 6 months or so you know that I’ve been struggling with quitting smoking again. (Was off them for 5 years until I lost my parents) I did manage to get a couple of month in between Sep and Nov 2010 but then our “little man” Sparky (the Jack Russell) was diagnosed with cancer and we had to put him down. I picked up the smokes again with all the stress and grieving.
My cardiac surgeon says that I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO QUIT before the surgery. So… I picked up some Champix recently and lo and behold, I’m weaning off fairly effortlessly. I should have bought this stuff a long time ago.
Clearly, this cardiac crisis is shaping up to be a catalyst in my life.
Yeah! Everyone should have a coronary catalyst without having a massive coronary! LOL!
Good thing my mental health is stable since my physical health hasn’t been the past couple of years! Actually, I’m amazingly calm considering the surgery I’m going in for in less than 2 weeks. I have a solid “knowing” that God willing, everything is going to go well and that I’m going to be fine. After my recovery, I’m going to feel better than I have in years! <happy dance>
I’ll keep you updated as the countdown progresses. Thanks in advance for your patience with me over the next few months.
Conceive, Believe and then Receive! …because you CAN!
Till next time, take self-care seriously & God bless!
Blessings and prayers for your optimal health!

Thanks Mitch! My surgery was actually back in February but this announcement just went out because last night I managed to fix a glitch with my rss feed. ~T:-)
